Steve Hackett Interview – Back In The Pack

Steve Hackett once again takes to the road for his 2015 world tour dubbed,  From Acolyte to Wolflight with Genesis Revisited—the Total Experience.  After several years of touring Genesis Revisited, Hackett now celebrates his own solo career and the 40 year anniversary of the landmark album that launched it, Voyage Of The Acolyte.

Wolflight is an album very close to the composer’s heart, as he revealed in our last interview just prior to it’s completion in, Setting The Record Straight.  The album does indeed triumph on many levels.  As a guitarist, Hackett is at his peak, demonstrating familiar & beloved mastery of acoustic and electric guitars. However, it’s the complexity of the compositions and the haunting arrangements of these 10 songs that reveal the artist on the stage in a new light.   As Hackett discussed in our latest interview, much care has gone into the concepts, recording and live rendering of these songs along with the Genesis songs from 1970-1977 that also appear alongside on the new tour.  Hackett has ensured that his band and sound team bring a fully orchestrated, surround-sound fullness to the live experience creating what Hackett enthusiastically describes as, “huge sound”.  For fans of Genesis, the previous Genesis Revisited tours have been a shear delight.  The music is both loved and timeless and to hear it expertly recreated live is as thrilling today as it was in the 70’s.  But for Hackett fans, this is truly the tour to end all tours. This time, the artist not only brings with him Genesis essentials, but also the full scope of the Hackett songbook!

In this interview, Steve talks candidly about his new release and recalls some tender last encounters with the late Yes bassist, Chris Squire with whom Hackett maintained a close personal relationship with. Squire’s last recorded work appears on Wolflight in the song, Love Song to a Vampire. The album and the tour will contain many surprises, among them the addition of Steve’s wife, Jo Hackett who has joined the team,  so fans would do well to make at least one of these shows a must-see destination!  Steve will be appearing this month in our New York area with 3 highly anticipated concert dates.  For a full tour schedule, be sure to check out the official site Hackettsongs.

Steve Hackett has been a great friend to the site and this marks our third interview with him.  We hope you enjoy this latest interview as much as we did.  May you be inspired!
